Torx screw, formally known as ISO10664 Screw or hexalobular internal screw or star socket screw, is a screw fastener developed and marketed by Camcar Textron in 1967. It was also called Torx screw because the brand name Kangga patented was Torx. Trox screws are commonly found in automobile, motorcycle, bicycle brake systems, hard drives, computer systems and consumer electronics.
The contact Angle of the Trox design is closer to 90 degrees than that of the hexagonal head, so the potentially destructive radial force will be much less at the same torque. This feature allows the screw head to be made smaller for the same amount of torque, with the advantage of less space. The disadvantage of the older head, however, is that the smaller the internal "star", the more likely it is to corrode, and can allow the quinco screwdriver to slip and damage the head, making it more difficult to remove than traditional hex bolts.
